At Harvest Christian Academy, God’s love is learned through lessons that are woven through all our disciplines so that they become a meaningful and treasured part of each child's growth. Our program is designed to encourage your child’s growth socially, emotionally, physically, intellectually, and spiritually. We want to partner with you in this endeavor through a curriculum that is centered on God’s Word.
Preschoolers are learning to be independent from their parents, experimenting with appropriate social behaviors, and becoming confident in their actions. HCA Preschool inspires your young learner by teaching strategies to learn both life and academic skills needed to become lifelong learners.
FACILITY
Our windowed classrooms present a nature-inspired calm in the midst of a bustling urban area. Harvest Christian Academy campus is located on 80 acres of rolling terrain bordered by mature trees. Our classrooms are designed to be an inviting play and work space that provides many opportunities for children to explore as they develop social and academic skills. Classrooms facilitate center-based learning; centers typically include a dramatic play area, art center, block area, science/discovery table, writing center, sensory tables, a quiet book center and computer stations in the Pre-Kindergarten rooms. Child-sized tables and chairs and pillows enhance the loveliness of each classroom and help children feel comfortable. Our classroom’s have adjacent bathrooms with preschool size fixtures. The Preschool hallway offers “viewing windows” to all of our classrooms and the Motor Room permitting parents to observe their child at any time.
CLASS SIZE
Pre-Kindergarten classes do not exceed sixteen children taught by a teacher and an assistant teacher. In our three and four year old classes we may have up to fourteen children taught by a teacher and an assistant.
CURRICULUM
We provide a Christ-centered curriculum where children learn through exploring, experimenting and play in a carefully planned classroom. This planned structure provides children space for self-initiated activities, group participation practicing social skills as well as activities that are teacher-guided.
LITERACY
Literacy activities are based on Orton Gillingham and Open Court curriculum. Print-rich classrooms encourage our students to develop a passion for literature and to understand the many values and uses of printed text. Our goal is to provide your child with an unparalleled first school experience,
MOTOR ROOM
Our Music and Movement program is unique to area preschools. Through structured activities, games and musical activities our Music and Movement teacher uses our expansive Motor Room to promote gross motor development, encourage listening skills and group participation. The equipment in the motor room includes but is not limited to trampolines, climbers, tunnels, parachutes, large building units and other equipment that our children enjoy using independently in an open-ended fashion or with teacher guidance.
MATH/SCIENCE
Pre-math investigation with manipulatives allows children to develop understanding of numerals, shapes, patterns, measurement, and logical thinking. Science and discovery- based activities fulfill children's innate need to explore, discover, and draw their own conclusions based on observations and problem solving. By developing and practicing these skills, children at HCA Preschool are building the conceptual foundations needed for their future academic endeavors.
