    Safety Tips

One of the biggest facility challenges facing Harvest Christian Academy’s administrative staff has been the design of a traffic flow plan which utilizes the indoor parking structure. The two major objectives in designing the plan have been security and safety for our students as well as a systematic approach to the daily drop off and pick up of students. Please take a few moments and read the enclosed traffic plan. It is essential that parents understand not only the details of the plan, but the reasoning behind it. Please keep in mind that this plan was designed primarily for the safety and security of our students.

On their first day of school we assume that you as parents, will park and walk your child into the building. You are reminded to use the parking area (east deck only).

    SECURITY
As a school, security is our major concern. The safety of the children must be the centerpiece of any school program. In that all entry points to the building must pass through the guardhouse, this entrance will serve as the main security checkpoint. To expedite entry while still addressing security issues each family will be given parking identification tags which should be affixed to each car’s rearview mirror.

    VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION
Each vehicle used to transport students to or from school will be required to have a rearview mirror parking identification tag. This identification tag gains the driver access in or out of the building without being stopped by security. Two tags will be given to each family. Additional tags can be picked up at the lower school office. These parking identification tags will be mailed to you during the month of August.

In addition, parents picking up students after school will be assigned a visor tag that is to be placed on the driver’s side visor. This allows the security guard to contact the classroom and release the child or children to meet the parent at the pickup area.

    OVERSIZED VEHICLES
Oversized vehicles must enter the building through the right pick up lane, proceed straight ahead, and immediately park in the spaces to the right or left. Due to traffic flow, drivers of oversized vehicles must escort their children to the second level entrance door. Whenever possible, parents are encouraged not to use oversized vehicles when dropping students off at school.

    DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP PLANS

For safety and security reasons, a carefully designed system has been established for the drop off and pick up for the following family dynamics. Please read the section that applies to your family.

    PRESCHOOL STUDENTS ONLY

    (Both drop-off and pick-up)

Parents with preschoolers must park for all drop-off and pick-up activities since preschoolers must always be dropped off and picked up at their preschool classroom.

    • Display your HCA rearview mirror parking identification tag from the rearview mirror
    • Enter the parking deck from the left lane and park in the east deck
    • Escort your child to or from the classroom and sign him/her in or out
    • You may leave the building via the parking deck and proceed through the exit

    LOWER SCHOOL STUDENTS ONLY
Parents are provided with two options; parking or drop-off/pick-up.

    MORNING ARRIVAL

    Option 1: Drop Off

    • Make sure you display your HCA rearview mirror parking identification tag
    • Enter the parking deck from the right lane and follow the arrows to the west deck
    • Proceed to the yellow-striped drop-off area on the second floor
    • Your child will exit your vehicle and enter school through the blue doors
    • You may leave the building via the parking deck and proceed through the exit

    Option 2: Park

    • Make sure you display your HCA rearview mirror parking identification tag
    • Enter the parking deck from the left lane and follow the arrows to the east deck
    • Your child will exit your vehicle and enter school through the blue doors
    • You may leave the building via the parking deck and proceed through the exit

    AFTER SCHOOL DEPARTURE

    Option 1: Drop Off

At the end of the day, all lower school children are prepared for dismissal. As you enter the building from the right lane, please display your family number located on your visor tag. Slow down and allow the school official to read the number on your visor. They will contact the dismissal coordinator, who will dismiss your child/children to the pick-up area located on the 2 nd floor parking deck in order as vehicles arrive in the building.

    Option 2: Park

    • Make sure you display your HCA rearview mirror parking identification tag
    • Enter the parking deck from the left lane and follow the arrows to the east deck
    • Park, enter the building, make your way to the cafeteria and give the dismissal coordinator your family number.

    BOTH LOWER AND PRESCHOOL STUDENTS

Due to the fact that preschoolers are involved, parents must park and pick up their preschoolers from preschool classrooms. Older lower school siblings will be released to the preschool room to allow for “one stop” pick-up.

    • Make sure you display your HCA rearview mirror parking identification tag
    • Enter the parking deck from the left lane and follow the arrows to the east deck
    • Park, enter the building, and pick up your children from the preschool classroom

    SAFETY TIPS

    • No parking is ever allowed in the striped drop-off/pick-up area
    • Drive carefully and slowly throughout the parking structure
    • Cars must always yield to pedestrians walking within the parking structure

If you have any further questions, please contact the school office.
